The city of Seoul is always under construction so South Korean artist Choi Jeong-Hwa has created a shielding screen for a building under construction. Jeong-Hwa used 1000 brightly coloured recycled doors to create a screen for a 10-storey building, at the same time turning it into a visual delight. The artist felt that by using discarded doors in the installation he could retain something of the memories and the daily routines that these doors once were party to. He says: “There were lives that used to pass through those doors.” 1000 Doors is also a means to engage the greater city population on the possibility of making “normal” things appear extraordinary.
Above is a selection of some of his wonderful installations from around the world.
DELIGHTED to say that Bonker*s Clutterbucks have been selected to work with the wonderful Grundy Art Gallery and Blackpool Council to work with the community to produce a range of saleable products for the art gallery and tourist office shops, as part of “Project Object”. We’ll be able to explore the cities wonderful archives for inspiration and plan to make some models and card modelling kits inspired by Blackpool’s historic collections and built heritage. We’ve been playing around with card and cardboard and are itching to get stuck in.
Very chuffed to stumble upon the work of Chris Theiss aka Hutch Studio on Etsy. Here are a selection of his whiligigs which spin on his fence and in his shop…….Wonderful!
Bonkers Clutterbucks just got it’s very own facebook page.
Final push as we prepare for our last event this year Castlefield Artisan Market, Castle Street, Manchester, this FRIDAY 23rd, 10am to 9pm. We are particularly chuffed to be taking part in this event as it is only the 4th ever Artisan Market to be held here and it also happens to be the brainchild of a lovely couple from Helmshore who have been planning this remarkable market for years. We were genuinely wowed when we visited the market in November as it was a serious foodie fair / come mini Camden or Portobello Road market..with northern edge – all rolled into one. There was some extremely cool vintage ware, live jazz and Cotton Club dancers. Would LOVE to learn! The area has been regenerated while maintaining industrial heritage and the market is ideally situated between the industrial arches and the canal surrounded by great modern architecture and houseboats. This Friday there will be lots of award winning food, drinks, last minute gifts and live music… PLUS ….BBC North West will be reporting live from there from 6.30 pm… so look out for Bonker*s Clutterbucks if you’re able! Oh and please wish us luck as it’ll be an extremely long day for the girls…. it’s cold up north, we’re all feeling pretty ropey + Peter has his annual man flu! X
